If you’ve ever lived in a land-locked location, you know how awful seafood can taste after it’s been frozen and shipped over long distances. That’s one of the many reasons we’re lucky to live in South Louisiana — access to fresh seafood. Not only does it taste great, but it’s a low fat, high protein food source that also provides a lot of health benefits.
Here on the banks of Lake Pontchartrain, we’re even luckier to have direct access to that delicious delicacy — blue crabs. With the St. Tammany Crab Fest happening earlier this month, we thought it was an excellent time to sing their praises. They provide an entire day’s requirement of vitamin B12, which is great for your heart, and with their healthy dose of Selenium, they may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, thyroid disorders, and cancer.
