While it’s true that the dog days of summer are still a ways away, any dog lover will tell you that everyday is a dog day! Our furry friends certainly enjoy toys, treats, and walks on the leash, but every now and then, it’s good to bump it up a notch with visits to the dog park and/or doggy day care.
Previous generations probably would’ve found these concepts completely insane, but nowadays, we like to go the extra mile for our pets. Check out these two Hammond facilities that are dedicated solely to our canine babies.
Conveniently located in downtown Hammond, in the far southwest corner of Zemurray Park, this modest little dog haven abides by the park’s hours, which are 8am-7pm daily. Water, trash barrels, and bag dispensers are provided, so dog owners are encouraged to pick up after their dogs. Given that it covers only about an acre, it’s imperative to keep it clean! It also features a double-gate entry/exit to the large and small dog areas for the safety of both dogs and owners. 400 South Oak Street; (985) 277-5900
In addition to offering day care services with plenty of play time, this facility, which is touted as the only one on the Northshore to use force-free training techniques, also offers day training and group training classes, which include K-9 nose work, manners classes, and puppy socials. 20484 Highway 190; (504) 376-4035
